The power of a phrase. It seems to compel some people to splash stencils or decals all over their house.
I mean, how does one remember to laugh if they don’t get a reminder to do so while climbing into bed?
How do you know you should eat and drink in the kitchen? Can you do that in any other room of the house? “Be Merry”, that’s a lot of pressure.
I’ve made many decorating mistakes in my day, so this is not a judgment on anyone who is still sporting a stenciled phrase on your wall. All I’m asking is to take a second and think about why your decor needs to be so literal. Wouldn’t you rather have candles and books in your bedroom and cookbooks and bottles of wine (to really drink and be merry) in your kitchen? It’s much less “decorate-y” and inviting for things to be functional and actually represent the activities that lead to enjoyable moments.
Until next time. I feel like I have a couple of things swirling in my brain.
